This sweet wild Onaqui mare was peacefully grazing in the desert sun when I caught this image. When I decided to edit it, there was a feeling about it I couldn’t quite put my finger on. She looks so calm but there’s just something else - and then it came to me. Courage. The simple act of being, of existing, can require just that. For our wild horses, it’s a reality since their freedom is so fragile. Gentle courage is written on her face and present in her demeanor - such a sweet soul with a brave heart.
